Ethos,
After your failed attempts to make a strong argument or persuade the feeblest mind, have you considered changing Ethos to a more suitable name, Bathos perhaps. Given your unethical methods of argumentation, Ethos is definitely a misnomer.

Black Sheep,
I downloaded stellarium and is cool. It seems to be better in some regards. However, for the specific purpose of finding the data for the lunar threes the Sky X seems to be child's play in comparison. Once you find the city you want to use as observation point, gettting the specific time for sunset, or sunrise, or moonset, or moonrise for any given date can be done literally in few seconds. In stellarium I still haven't figured out how to enter a BCE date, much less get any times for sunset, sunrises, etc.
Ethos,
Speaking of regurgitators of information, the quintessential example of regurgitation is heard and seen in kingdom halls all over the world every Saturday and Sunday. Wouldn't you agree? Aren't you part of that group of people who raises his/her hand only to repeat what the governing body expects you to repeat? Try thinking by yourself and deviate a little from the text; soon you will find yourself in a J.C.

Ethos,
The VAT 4956 is not a red herring, it's an attempt to spare you futile debate regarding a subject that was resolved decades ago. The table that I posted is a cut and paste from an excel sheet that I created inputing data one cell at a time. If you find it hard to believe, just tell me where you live and choose any date in the near future or distant past and I will tell you the times for the moonset, moonrise, sunset and sunrise. Once I learn how to give coordinates in the sky, I could give you the position of any planet.
If you are as I am, seeing-is-believing type of guy, try getting the software (The SkyX First Light Edition) without the telescope. The program alone must be a lot cheaper than $200.00. It's very user friendly. Even an 8 year old can learn to use it with very little training

Londo,
Even though VAT 4956 has been discussed ad infinitum, it doesn't hurt to have another program corroborating what many scholars and astronomy programs have confirmed: The Watchtowwer leaders lie.
Regarding my beloved JW's (relatives and friends), I would have to train them on neo-Babylonian calendars and cuneiform tablets first before they understand the significance of the great matches for 568/567 BCE and the utterly bad "matches" for Furulli's 588/587 BCE
Here's a part of my research, only the good matches. Scroll to the right with the lower bar to see the entire table

Ethos,
Save time. Stop trying to interpret a book that was written thousands of years ago and likely has been subject to modifications, translations error, and interpretation errors. The Bible is ambiguous and contains many lacunas, especially in the neo-Babylonian period. Use unbias judges, use Mathematics and Astronomy to solve the problem of the year 607/587 BCE. I just received my telescope from Costco.com. (Nextstar 102 GT) Much to my surprise it came with a program that easily allows me to find the position of the moon and the Sun at any time anywhere in the world. I decided to corroborate the conclusions of many scholars regarding the year 568/567 BCE being the 37th year of Nabuchdnezzar. When I use years 568/567 BCE as the 37th year of Nabuchadnezzar, as indicated in VAT 4956, I have been able to match seven lunar threes observations recoded in the tablet. The matches are great (4 excellent, one very good, one good, one acceptable) . When you use the years 588/587 BCE as the 37th year of Nabuchadnezzar it is an utter failure (two are impossible, two are very bad, one good and two acceptable. Things get worse if you use the calendar suggested by Furulli (two "matches" are bad and five very bad)
If 568/567 was the 37th year of Nabu, then 587/586 was his 18th year. According to Jeremiah 32:1-2 that was the year when Jerusalem was taken and destroyed by the Babylonians.
Criteria: "Excellent" is under three minute difference between software and recorded observation in VAT4956, "Very good" is under six, "good" is under nine, "acceptable" is under 12 minutes, "bad" is between 12 and 20 min, "very bad" is over 20 minutes.
Ethos: Buy your telescope, stick the CD program (The Sky / First light edition) in your computer and enjoy the light of truth. It will cost you about $200.00 but it will liberate you from a life of slavery to a master who has lied to you and used you to provide free labor.
as we grow older and have more life experience we have an advantage in looking at our life as a whole.. we can see things from more than one perspective.
we can be wiser as our emotions cool.
hindsight gives us the power to judge outcomes.. for example, i was thinking about a 20 year chunk of my life.
I wish I had been more interested in researching JW's faith at the time I agreed to have my wife take my two children to those indoctrinating meetings sixteen years ago. Had I done that research, it's unlikely that my young daughter would be one of the baptized slaves of the governing body and I wouldn't have such a hard time erasing the JW robotic program from my unbaptized younger son. However, it's this strong desire to remove the program from my children's brain that has led me in the path of researching some fascinating subjects such as neo-Babylonian history, astronomy and archeology.
in the last six months i have learned so much about jw's from the "apostate" books and web sites such as jwfacts and this great site.
ever since i started my research on jw's three adjectives to describe the wts leadership came to mind: deceptive, arrogant and manipulative.
i just noticed today that the first letters create the acronym dam.

Ever since I started my research on JW's three adjectives to describe the WTS leadership came to mind: DECEPTIVE, ARROGANT and MANIPULATIVE. I just noticed today that the first letters create the acronym DAM. It seems that I just need the letter N to form DAMN. I know the following request is on the trivial side but I would appreciate if some of you can provide adjectives or nouns that describe the leadership of the WTS and also start with the letter N... "Nitwits" fits well but not good enough.
even though wikipedia isn't perfect, and you still have to vet and research anything you read online, it has proved invaluable to me and many others out there over the last few years since we learned ttatt.
articles on jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower corporations, as well as cognitive dissonance, et al.
have made it a great place to help those that want to free their minds, which includes me lol!.
I donated $25 few month ago. I feel it's time to do it again. The work they do is great. I know it is not accurate, but is 10000 percent more dependable than the WTS publications. It's more than sufficient for the casual reader to check on just about anything. The job those guys at Wikipedia do is better than they get credit for.

Conclusion:
So the ending point of the 70 years is 539 BCE.
Your conclusion implies that you trust secular chronology and history.
If you accept secular history to reach 539 BCE, you have to accept 587/586 BCE for the fall of Jerusalem too.
this is a melancholy day for me.
over the past few years i have been studying american politics and have enjoyed learning perspectives from different ideologies.
i personally lean towards conservative values when it comes to creating legislature, however i am socially liberal.
*gasp* Yes, educating our citizens can never lead to any good. Especially when we educate the poor, who could not afford to pay for private schools. DISASTER! No collective good can come of that!
Do people think before they post, or is this really the bubble they live in?
New chapter. Your vitriol suggests that you don't forget. One more time I apologize for past offenses. I hope you bury the hatchet soon.
True, basic education (K-12) is absolutely necessary and should be covered by everyone who can contribute, but where do you set the limit to all the freebies that the citizenry has come to expect from big brother. Common sense dictates that you acquire the goods and services that you can afford, no more. The American citizenry has gone way over budget and has burden generations to come. That's immoral.
By the way, I do live in a figurative bubble. Almost everyone around me owe their house, or their cars, or have credit cards maxed out, or are not prepared for retirement, or have to borrow for their children's higher education. Not I. I have zero debt and don't expect to have any until the day I die. I am not rich, but I live by a philosophy of self sufficiency and personal responsibility. I suppose in the U.S. that makes me weird, strange, a bubble dweller.
